My group for this project was comprised of Viviana Duran, Ricardo Cortes, and me Andrew Dafnis. I think for the most part we had a good group dynamic for a few reasons. One being we all had different skill sets, I worked well on the technical things like the website, pamphlet and laser cutting. Ricky is probably the best writer out of all of us, and Viviana was great at building. With all these different skill sets I think we split the work up until the end where someone might be off task. As a group member I feel I could grow in is listening to others ideas when we’re rushing at the end of the project. Although we didn’t get our rollercoaster working consistently I think we knew that but kept high hopes in the project.
In humanities this project I learned a lot about history and the way revolutions start and events in other countries not just ones incredibly important to us. For instance my revolutions wasn’t huge nor really important but it can be connected to other revolutions and current events. One thing that occurs in every revolution is two or more sides have disagreeing ideas, lots of times being religious or government trying to set limitations on the people. I also learned in creative writing how to set up my paragraph so that I can connect multiple stories to it. I used humanity's thinking a lot in this project because prior to this I had no clue the North-West Rebellion existed and I had to research everything. I think one of the hardest thing was trying to differ all of our stories for different endings.
This was probably one of my favorite units for physics because the concepts of it made the most sense and the knowledge from the other units helped dramatically. Past physics concepts we’ve learned about have confused me because they’re all new. This unit was much easier because it used a lot of the rules that the others used. In the product portion of it we had to make an energy audit, where we had to find the potential energy, kinetic energy, mechanical energy, and the velocity at any given point on our coaster. While discovering this information we also had to factor in the weight of the marble which was tough for my group because we had a few marbles that we were using.
In engineering in this project we started off with learning to make blueprints, this was one of my least favorite parts because I’m terrible at drawing. But once we got through that the building was exciting because in the middle school we didn’t use a variety of tools. In this project we were almost forced to use an engineering mindset. We had to use this mindset because the amount of things that we had to keep testing and checking everything thing on our rollercoaster. Lastly we had to use an engineering mindset when we lost our marble we had been using the whole time, at this moment we had to redesign most of the track and ended up having it mostly work.
This project I feel I had a lot to offer because I’m comfortable using illustrator and hands on building. The learning outcome I feel I was the best at in this project is oral communication. I think I was the best at this because we had a lot of work, but we could split it across a few people. It was hard for all of us to work on the rollercoaster at once so I did a lot of the modifications to our website. I think I need the most work in collaboration because I did a lot of work alone this project then asked for critique.
