Engineering Design Group
My career day this year was with a civil/geotechnical engineering company called Engineering Design Group. They’re based out of San Diego and work all the way up to LA. We started off the day at their office, and Erin (The person I was shadowing) started showing me what the blueprints they see look like. She also showed me how they make these blueprints, it’s with a system called autoCAD. It is a computer aided design software that can also be used for drafting. After she showed me around there we went out to a location that they were currently surveying. The homeowner wanted to create an extension to his house, Engineering Design Group was there to sample the soil at various points and determine if the land was safe for his design.
